Why not get married by the seaside?
Australians like simple weddings overlooking the Pacific Ocean at Whitsunday Resorts, followed by equally simple receptions afterwards.
What could be more simple than this?

When one enjoys looking at the wonderful Photoblogs from all around the world, there is so much to learn.
Today, Marie in Montpellier has given me inspiration to write poetry.
Young Bill Shakespeare would die with his 'leg in the air' !!

I've never seen a purple cow.
I hope I never see one.
But I'd rather see a purple cow,
Than be one.

It's Winter in Adelaide and nobody likes it. Therefore these men wear jackets that are a cold colour, and in the summer, they wear orange jackets. I think that the world has gone mad!

Every day I carry my camera in my pocket at all times. I hope I will see a Citroën-2CV or a 1959 Plymouth Belvedere.
Today I was rewarded with a Citroën DS21, but I could not drive fast enough to photograph the front of this beautiful car.
Bloody French drivers! They drive so fast, one would think that this was «The Champs-Élysées» !!

Das Schaussengrabens sind in den Tropen.

Herr und Frau Schaussengraben from Adelaide, are now north of the Tropic of Capricorn. This is what things are like in Yeppoon on the Pacific coast.

They are enjoying the glorious weather and they now know why all the Mexicans go north for winter.

This photo shows an idyllic setting where a man from Tasmania comes in winter to escape the cold that effects his wife's arthritis. It also shows that you do not need a big boat to catch large fish as large cod and flathead are caught from this spot. A very relaxing atmosphere at 23°C.

In Australia, like in any other country, there exists some rivalry between the States.
What an insult, that Adelaide trams will have to drive on the rails from Melbourne.

Nous avons la puissance

If your toaster won't work in Adelaide, you can not blame the Electricity Company. These little garçons have the power in their hands.
They polish the wires and we have the cleanest electricity in all the world.
Adelaïde est la ville propre des Sud.

We turn our attention to Gloucestershire, today

Today, and for the last few days, the people of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, have been suffering from heavy rains and most serious flooding. Poor Lynn, at Cheltenham Daily Photo has been experiencing the lack of water supply for her household daily needs and the magnificent Tewkesbury Abbey has been flooded. Businesses have been destroyed and families have had their lives washed away from under them.
Our hearts go out to all these poor people and we wish you every success in rebuilding your lives and re establishing your properties.

Adelaide will be soon, the city of flowers,
Springtime is only 38 days away.
The gardeners are preparing for the new season and soon we will be experiencing sun and warmth.
You will soon see beautiful roses everywhere, in Victoria Square.

Travelling North - in the Wide, Brown Land

There are lots of ways to get around in Oz. One of the best ways, is slowly. One can go in a spiral and see the coast and then reduce the radius and return to town via the Red Centre.
Here's the Pacific Ocean. It's what you can see in California, but this is our view of it.
The Adelaide bit, is the vehicle and the caravan of my good friend, Herr Schaussengraben, who is not so highly stressed as the rest of us.
The Syndrome is called, "Travelling North". Gute Voyage Mein Herr

This little girl is trying to catch the water as it spurts intermittently from the pavement. A sunny day at Glenelg is always a good time for playing with water, even in July.

In our country we have a bird called a Butcher Bird, (who probably resembles a French Butcher !!). They are intelligent and opportunistic, show little fear and take food offerings to the point of becoming tame. They will respond to these offerings with a thank-you song.
Here is Alan on his lawn whipping up a true-blue Aussie brekkie, while the bird carefully chooses his bacon and eggs. This magnificent concoction is known as Toad-in-the-Hole, here in Oz. But I think that Crapaud dans le Trou sounds much better.
'Crappo dans le Troo', - it has a nice ring to it and perhaps should become our national dish.

These amazingly beautiful Gum Trees are known as Eucalyptus Grandis or commonly, - Flooded Gum or Rose Gum.
They can be found along the Eastern Australian coast from just north of Newcastle to south east Queensland and also in northern Queensland. They grow to 70 metres maximum. Koalas will eat the leaves of these extremely fast-growing trees.
While Herr Schaussengraben continues his mission of discovery up the eastern seaboard, I will send these dispatches from the Eastern Front.

! ! (à Mt. Buller en Victoria)

Those people living in Europe, think that Australia is a land of heat and red dust.
That is certainly correct, but we have snowfields that are larger than the whole of Switzerland.
Madame would like to show you a sight that explains this fact, - and her blond hair !!!. (At Mount Buller in Victoria)

"Keep of the grass", is a sign Aussies rarely see. Grass is for walking and playing on.
But if you are a Police Chic, you usually drive the cop car on the grass to stop those beautiful little police feet getting too cold.

Here are photos of friends home at South West Rocks in New South Wales, near Kempsey. We met them last year in Darwin
Lovely place on a salt water inlet... their son catches flathead by casting from the balcony into the water and hauling them up on the lawn.
It's also got yellow fin whiting, bream, mud and blue crabs and lots of different birds. Alan feeds them all and the come right up to him.
Lots of great seafood in this area.

The Metropolitan Fire Service's Adelaide Fire Station in Wakefield Street has 130 firefighters providing prevention and preparedness, emergency response and recovery services.
It has 9 fire appliances ranging from Heavy Duty Pumpers and Rescue Units, to a Breathing Apparatus Vehicle and multi-storey Hydraulic Platform Appliances.
Their response time averages 5.5 min. The original Fire Station was opened in 1882.

If you would like to know why we still call Australia, home

Victoria Square, again - and again.
If you think that I enjoy Victoria Square then you're right. Every day of the week, something new occurs. Today the final tram rails are almost complete, and these little garçons are admiring their work. In a few minutes they will rush to the pub and celebrate a good week's work.

Just because you're having Summer...

Northern Hemisphereians are having summer weather, but in Adelaide one can get into the spirit of summer in the middle of winter. You just need the right attitude. These little girls have the right attitude at Glenelg.
July in Australia; No worries.

A grand dinner at the posh William Creek Hotel

Situated 871 kilometres north of Adelaide, (and 14950 kilometres to the south east of Paris), lies the dry and beautiful metropolis of William Creek. Here one sees some hungry, Adelaide mouths, that popped-in from down south, simply to experience the fine cuisine - and tomato sauce in the mandatory squeezy bottle.

It is one of South Australia’s smallest townships (population average 16 people) and lies within the world’s largest pastoral station, Anna Creek, which at its peak was 34, 000 sq. km, almost half the size of Tasmania. The origins of the district date back to March 1863.

Adelaide is becoming greener

After a protracted period of drought conditions, the rains have arrived and the countryside is becoming greener. Today, we saw a whole day of sunshine.

The long range weather forecast is for a warm July and August. The hills, eight kilometres from the city will bloom with all this rain, but will this fuel a bush-fire risk in the next Summer

Today, Madame returned from Tahiti and kindly presented me with some beautiful gifts, including the morning newspaper and an excellent calendar.
I can now pronounce "December", in the native language.
I have also learned the correct way to build sand castles in Papeete.
This one looks like Madame, herself !!!

These little fellers rush to the bicycle and skateboard park, very early on Saturday mornings. They like to arrive before the hordes arrive. This park is beside the University and the Adelaide Railway Station, at North Terrace.

A Ghost still lives in Adelaide: Un fantôme habite toujours à Adelaïde

This old hotel called "The Austral", was built in 1879. A few years later, the "Governor's Eleven", challenged the visiting Englishmen to a game of cricket on Adelaide Oval.

At the end of the day, they sat down to a splendid dinner at the Austral.

When they had consumed all the wine, the Governor was forced to send his Maid Servant to Government House to bring back another barrel of wine. The horse and dray returned with the new barrel, but all the servants were drunk. The barrel fell to the ground and all the wine spilled on the road. The loud noise scared the poor horse. The horse bolted, and the Maid Servant was killed by the iron wheels. Today, the ghost of Angela Costain, lives at the Austral Hotel, in Rundle Street.

Adelaide once had an East-End Market, complete with 19 century facades. Now, it has been redeveloped as a residential precinct, complete with eateries, pubs and interesting retail outlets. Some thought has gone into this development to marry the old with the new.
This photo, taken from the East Parklands on East Terrace, shows the east End Apartments and the beautiful old market facades.

Sartorial splendour in the workplace.

Theses young fellers are building a shelter at the terminus of the new tram route on North Terrace, just outside the entrance to Uni S.A. City West Campus. Another warm photo on a cold morning.
