Today, the 'Bismarck', with its 'Hood', is ambling down the river Darling, (the hood keeps the motor dry), and we can see some more photos of the longest river in the Wide, Brown Land. Here is the Bismarck with the German chancellor Otto von Bismarck at the helm and Kapitän zur See Ernst Lindemann in looking for any signs of life..
Henry Lawson once said:-

The skies are brass and the plains are bare,
Death and ruin are everywhere;
And all that is left of the last year's flood
Is a sickly stream on the grey-black mud;
The salt-springs bubble and the quagmires quiver,
And this is the dirge of the Darling River.

Oh M B - your interpretation of history is a tad naughty - love it!!!

Considering how long these men have been traveling on this river they look pretty good.

Henry Lawson once lived in Waverton, a suburb of Sydney. I onced lived in that house at 28 Euroka Street. It was a gorgeous sandstone terrace house then owned by one of Australia's novelists - Robert Drewe. For all I know, Drew may still own it.

I brought back the complete works of Henry Lawson and still have them. Great stuff. There are so many fab Australian writers.
